Batalá Houston is the local band chapter of a worldwide percussion movement called Batalá Mundo. Batalá plays the energetic and polyrhythmic genre of samba reggae, original from the northeastern state of Bahia, in Brasil. Samba reggae, and all the rhythms that are a part of it, is a legacy of Afro-Brazilian culture in Bahia.
